First unit of museum turned over to association
1937 Plans will be made for management and administration of the museum which was completed yesterday on the campus of Texas Technological College, date of the formal opening will be set, date of the annual meeting of the West Texas Museum Association will be made and other matters decided at a meeting of the executive committee of the association this afternoon in the chamber of commerce offices.
W.G. McMillan, contractor, turned the structure over to the association yesterday. The $25,000 first unit of an anticipated $200,000 museum has been completed and will serve for the present as a finished structure.
The museum is the result of efforts of dozens of West Texas persons who sought an allocation from Centennial funds so that a West Texas memorial might be erected. The West Texas Museum Association is the outgrowth of the unorganized group which began the attempt to secure the funds.
Hundreds of relics have been accumulated since Tech has opened and have been shoved into corners for lack of space for proper showing.
